We aim to create awareness around the power we have to support our community by buying from local businesses.
About us
Think Local First (TLF) is a membership-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to building a thriving and healthy Greater Victoria economy, achieved by ensuring people are aware of the community benefits of shopping locally. TLF is about the connection between independent businesses and how they contribute to creating healthy communities and a dynamic city. At the end of the day our dollars don’t get sent back to head office, they stay and get spent here. We are big fans of the 10 % shift movement. If even 10% of our dollars are spent at locally-owned shops and services, the result will be 25% more money will stay and support the local economy. Then there is the multiplier effect as local businesses make their purchases for office supplies, garbage disposal, lighting etc. with other local businesses. It makes a significant difference for our community. If we change our shopping behavior just that magic 10%, the results are proven. Our message is “think local first and shop local when you can”. This is what the 10% shift is all about. When we as a city think local first … many sustainability and green issues naturally fall into place. It’s the local businesses in our city that play a huge role in making Greater Victoria a place folks want to visit. Without these unique local businesses, we would not have such a strong tourism industry.

This Earth Day, let's show our love for the planet by supporting local organizations that are dedicated to reducing waste, conserving resources, and protecting the environment. Thrifting isn't just about finding unique treasures—it's a powerful act of sustainability! ♻️ Victoria Women in Need (WIN) like other thrift stores, plays a crucial role in promoting a circular economy by giving items a second life and reducing waste. In WIN every purchase supports local initiatives for women, trans, non-binary and Two-Spirit people while keeping goods out of landfills. Let's keep the cycle going and make a difference together! #thinklocalyyj #ThrifStores #CircularEconomy #SustainableCommunity
