The Self-Governing Indigenous Government (SGIG) Data Project created and maintains the Data Governance and Management Toolkit. Steered by the input of a committee of SGIG representatives, the toolkit outlines guiding principles and best practices when it comes to Indigenous Data Governance. It’s a powerful resource that considers each step in the data governance cycle, and goes in depth with the following sections: - Applied Tools - Data Governance - Data Management - Acquiring and Working with Data - Building Capacity To read more about the project, and access the toolkit visit the Indigenous Data Toolkit website: https://lnkd.in/dsfDsFBw

Indigenous Data Sovereignty is central to Firelight’s work, as we aim to uphold the highest community, Nation, and industry standards. It is dynamic work that we continuously aim to improve and grow alongside Indigenous communities as they articulate and advance their own principles and practices of data sovereignty. This is a very brief introduction to Indigenous Data Sovereignty, and we will be posting more comprehensive explanations and examples from Firelight’s work in the coming weeks.
