Background: The Greater Victoria School District (No. 61) is located in the capital city of British Columbia and covers the municipalities of Esquimalt, Oak Bay, Victoria, View Royal and portions of Saanich and the Highlands. We employ approximately 3,400 staff and more than 20,000 students attend our schools. We have 47 schools, of which includes 28 elementary schools (kindergarten to grade 5), 10 middle schools (grades 6 to 8), 7 secondary schools (grades 9 to 12), an alternative school, and an International Student Program. The Indigenous Teacher Consultants and Indigenous Education Librarian within our district are supporting our schools with new resources and teaching kits to help guide Indigenous Education. The kits range in subject from local plants, traditional textiles, storytelling, cedar weaving, drumming, and Medicine Wheel Teachings, to name only a few. Not one but two Guess My Job events completed today! Our Careers and Education Department introduced over 200 students from Northridge and Craigflower elementary schools to a variety of occupations today. Kids can’t be what they can’t see, which is why events like these are so important.
