People and technology you can rely on.

About us

Reliable Controls manufactures simple, flexible, sustainable building automation solutions that balance comfort and efficiency while reducing greenhouse gas emissions in buildings around the world. Our goal to help others achieve their goals begins by listening. We hear the World Green Building Council’s call to businesses, organizations, cities, states, and regions to reach net-zero operation by 2050. The next 30 years are critical. In the world of building automation systems, that means you want products that are built responsibly and built to last. Reliable Controls technology is backward compatible, better by design, and supported by responsible recycling. Install our controllers now, and they will thrive for decades. That's a sustainable return on investment. This dedication to multigenerational success is unique to our brand and reflects our pledge to sustainability. It's with purpose that we refer to our lineup of controllers or sensors as a family; each generation adds value, and nothing is rendered obsolete. We also take great pride in creating a healthy, sustainable working environment for our employees—as evidenced in our Canada’s Greenest Employer Award honors in 2020.

Reliable Controls is different from other building automation providers. We distribute our products through a single channel: the Reliable Controls Authorized Dealer network. Since 1986 we have nurtured this global group of independent, factory-trained and -certified dealers, and our business thrives when they do. Every two years we hold a special event called Interconnect, which brings together Authorized Dealers with suppliers, product developers, decision makers, and the leadership team at Reliable Controls. It’s happening this week in our hometown of Victoria, Canada, where close to 100 of our partners are enjoying social events, information sessions, networking, and more. We're grateful for this opportunity to build personal bonds and friendships with folks who are as passionate as we are about customer satisfaction in the building controls industry. Households across Canada, the United States, Australia, Denmark, and elsewhere are celebrating Mother’s Day today—the second Sunday in May. If that’s you, we wish you gratitude for all you do. Mother’s Day is celebrated in more than 50 countries, although not all countries mark it on the same day or even in the same way. Here are some fun Mother’s Day traditions from around the world. India: In October Hindus honor Durga, the goddess of mothers, in a 10-day festival called Durga Puja that’s thought to date back to the sixteen century. It’s both a religious ceremony and a time for family reunions. (Source: scholastic.com) Italy: The second Sunday in May is known as La Festa della Mamma—a day on which moms receive homemade gifts and pastries and aren’t allowed to do chores or cook. (Source: PBS.com) Peru: Like North Americans, Peruvians buy gifts and cards for their mothers, but the most important way they celebrate is visiting the cemetery to honor loved ones by decorating their graves. It’s a time to normalize grief and cherish memories. (Source: PBS.com) Ethiopia: The Antrosht festival, dedicated to moms, is observed at the end of the rainy season in fall. Families gathers for a large meal and celebration, with daughters traditionally bringing vegetables and cheese and sons bringing meat. (Source: scholastic.com) UK: Mothering Day, as it’s known in the UK, falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent and is a holiday grounded in religion. Many churches hand out daffodils for children to give to moms, and girls bake fruitcake for their mothers. (Source: scholastic.com) Brazil: Mother’s Day is a the second-most important holiday in Brazil after Christmas. It’s often marked with a multigenerational celebration that includes moms, grandmothers, and aunts. (Source: PBS.com) Do you have any Mother’s Day traditions in your family? The Meskwaki Nation is Iowa’s only federally recognized Indian tribe and the largest employer in Tama Country, with more than 1,450 enrolled members and a settlement of approximately 8,600 acres. Through preservation initiatives, community and health services, and business opportunities, the people of the Meskwaki Nation are committed to protecting their culture, sovereignty, and quality of life for future generations. Authorized Dealer Building Management Systems installed a Reliable Controls automation system during construction of the Meskwaki Nation Recreation Center to provide a unified control system for this new community facility. The rec center helps support community wellness, with a gym, field house, and spaces for day care, mixed use, and administration. Hockey arenas are highly controlled venues. From the moment you park your car, your comfort, safety, and overall experience is enhanced through a building automation system (BAS). Here’s how: Sidewalks can be de-iced prior to game time, ensuring guests walk in safety from the parking lot to arena entrance. This function can be automatically triggered if the BAS is tied into a weather station, or manually deployed on demand. Car park lighting is scheduled to switch on and off, saving energy and reducing light pollution in the neighborhood. Indoor lighting is also controlled by the BAS. As guests enter the arena, real-time people counters adjust critical systems indoors, like heating and ventilation. Sensors continuously monitor indoor air quality and adjust ventilation systems to balance comfort and safety. Ice quality relies on sensors and building automation. From the purity of water feeding the ice-making system, to the thickness of the ice and the temperature, everything is monitored and controlled. Even the temperature of domestic water (in bathrooms and locker rooms) is tracked and maintained. If hot water doesn’t reach the desired temperature, the BAS informs the building operator what happened, when it was out of tolerance, and how to resolve the problem. That’s the beauty of integrated fault detection and diagnostics. The freely programmable controllers designed and manufactured by Reliable Controls empower Authorized Dealers to craft custom interfaces and unique automation that is adaptable for the future. That means building owners can take control of every event. Curious about recreational facilities managed by our dealers? Visit https://lnkd.in/gVCQ7W89 to read more. Got questions? Huge thanks to the AABC Commissioning Group (ACG), Associated Air Balance Council (AABC), and Energy Management Association (EMA) for putting on such a great show. Lindsay Smith, our accounting and group benefits administrator, is something of a whiz at Reliable Controls. Last year she celebrated 20 years with the company, and she continues to inspire us with new ideas. In 2023 she enlisted a few friendly helpers to coordinate three employee wellness challenges: a step challenge in May, a wellness bingo in September, and a sugar-fix challenge in November. The step event was our first corporate health and wellness challenge. More than 75 employees used an app to track steps, distance, and activity time to compete for awesome prizes like an Apple Watch and a Fitbit. After 30 days, we walked an impressive 18,602,627 steps.   The bingo game marked Employee Wellness Week and promoted a healthy, balanced lifestyle—at home, in the office, and with friends and coworkers. The goal of the sugar-fix challenge was to encourage employees to pay attention to what we eat. Fifty team members followed one of two plans to cut added sugar for one work week. There was an optional Monopoly-style game, too.   “That was inclusive and fun!” said one employee. “Great motivation to make positive changes,” said another. We love events that bring our team together, and these had the bonus of being healthy for us, too!   Lindsay is hoping to plan some new things later this year, integrating suggestions from our end-of-year wellness survey.   Will you be participating? We’re looking for team members in sales, operations, R&D, and more. Check out our Careers page for more info: https://lnkd.in/g4eXijiK #ReliableControls #Team

The team that plays together stays together. Our social committee planned another fun month of activities for Reliable Controls in April, testing our arcade skills at Pinhalla Pinball & Pizzeria. This was a very popular outing that saw staff playing everything from "Indiana Jones: The Pinball Adventure" to "Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle"! Such a fun time. We also held an egg hunt and craft event for staff and kids to celebrate Easter. Will you be at our next social event? We're hiring!
