The surgery to remove Lucy’s facial tumor lasted 5 hours, requiring a team of 4 surgeons and scrub nurses — and it was a success! However, her recovery wasn’t a walk in the park. She had to have a feeding tube for one week and was in pain in the hospital wards. But thanks to the constant presence of her mother, a visit from her sister Sally, and the commitment of the volunteer crew, Lucy was able to make an amazing recovery. Nothing could hold this 14-year-old girl from moving forward with confidence and getting back into the classroom! #SafeSurgery #HopeAndHealing #MercyShips

Papa’s return from the Global Mercy was met with joy and celebration from his family and friends. “What you've done isn't just for Papa, but also for the community. We were all worried about him. His tumor is gone now, and his health, dignity, and joy are restored. You did this for Papa and the entire city,” his friend said. After living with a tumor on his face for years, Papa looks forward to a full life without having to worry about his health. Serigne struggled to keep up with others his age because of his bowed legs. Then he found healing on board the #GlobalMercy. “I was not scared when I went to the ship for surgery,” remembers the fearless and vibrant Lucy. Accompanied by her overjoyed mother, Lucy arrived early for her admission to board the #GlobalMercy.
