We’ve been designing reliable environmental monitoring solutions for extreme environments for 40 years.
About us
FTS, an AEM brand, was founded in 1980 to address the demanding weather information requirements of the world’s premier forest fire management agencies. The fire community’s strong requirements for rock-solid dependability and fast, trouble-free operation shaped FTS’s early product development efforts and helped create a corporate culture dedicated to meeting the practical needs of its customers. Today, our products are measuring, recording, and analyzing changes in watersheds, national forests, nationwide weather system networks, supply streams for drinking water reservoirs, the waters of fish and wildlife refuges and many other environments. Our monitoring stations reflect three decades of technological advancement focused on our goal of designing and manufacturing the world’s most reliable, simplest to use, and simplest to maintain systems. Our headquarters, research and design lab, and factory are located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, with a branch office in Blaine, Washington. From here, we supply products and services around the world, including North America, South America, Asia, and Europe. FTS stations have proven themselves under the most demanding conditions, from the most remote northern regions of Canada to the sun beaten, wind-blown salt and sand of the Mexican coast. Our customers include over 50 government agencies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico: customers who demand the highest levels of reliability, accuracy, and operational effectiveness.

Members of the AEM team, Richard Stedronsky and Mike Gaube, recently had a chance to meet with Amy Hewitson of ESS Earth Sciences, one of our partner companies in Australia. While Amy was visiting British Columbia, Canada, they used the opportunity to tour some of the equipment we've installed in the area, including this Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS). This particular station is used by one of our federal clients to help with water and wildfire management near Sooke Lake Reservoir.

May 5-11 is Wildfire Preparedness Week. As wildfires become more frequent, more intense, and faster-burning, cross-organizational collaboration is becoming increasingly critical to stay resilient in the face of the risks. Here's AEM's Global Wildfire Segment Leader, Ben Twomey, to explain why. For an even deeper dive, check out his complete interview on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gFDTcfes #wildfirepreparedness #collaborativeresilience

Our people aren’t just GOOD at what they do; they BELIEVE in what they do. Meet Dr. Elizabeth DiGangi. She received her Ph.D. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma before becoming a #LightningScientist for AEM. In her role, she serves on the R&D team that shares responsibility for continually advancing AEM’s lightning and meteorological capabilities. You’ll often see her presenting her latest scientific findings at major conferences. But, for Liz, her meteorology and lightning research isn’t just a job - it's something she's been passionate about since childhood. That’s why you’ll also see her volunteering to share her knowledge with kids in her community - like at the sixth-grade assembly pictured here.

When environmental disasters strike, decisions have to be made quickly. Nobody has time to sort through disparate, potentially conflicting sources of data. Our very own Anuj Agrawal has penned an important article that explains how companies and government agencies are tackling this problem by integrating their various data sources into a single, shared source of truth that supports rapid and effective decision-making.
ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: "Risky Reliance: The Peril of Disparate Weather Data Sources in an Age of Advanced Technology and Climate Change" by Anuj Agrawal of AEM.

Southwest Antennas has a great new podcast episode dedicated to GOES (Geostationary Orbital Environmental Satellite) antenna technology. FUN FACT: Southwest Antennas is the company we collaborated with to develop the EON2 antenna, which is available for many of the weather stations sold under our FTS Inc. brand. Thanks to Shannon K. Culpepper for all the hard work that went into developing this episode.
