Today is Moose Hide Campaign Day. This BC-born Indigenous-led grassroots movement to end violence towards women and children. The campaign is grounded in Indigenous ceremony and traditional ways of learning and healing. Every pin worn, every conversation had, brings us closer to ending violence against women and children. Get your Moose Hide pin and join us in making a difference. If you need a pin, moose hide pins or faux leather pins will be available at any of the rec centres or municipal hall today. https://lnkd.in/gubEpAt #MooseHideCampaign

Exciting sustainability and accessibility improvements are coming to Cedar Hill Recreation Centre. 😀 The project will be split into two phases. The first phase, focused on mechanical upgrades, is now underway. We anticipate the ability to remain open during our renovations, however there may be some temporary disruptions to programs or in accessing certain spaces in the recreation centre. https://lnkd.in/grtbmFnQ

Have you received an invitation to join the Victoria-Saanich Citizens’ Assembly (VSCA) on Municipal Amalgamation? 10,000 invitations were mailed out last month to randomly selected households in both municipalities in search of volunteers for the forthcoming Assembly. If your household received an invitation, the deadline to respond is May 30. Any resident of Victoria or Saanich whose household receives an invitation and is 16 years of age or older is eligible to volunteer and serve on the Citizens’ Assembly. 48 respondents will be randomly selected by civic lottery in a way that broadly represents the diversity of each municipality. You’ll help shape the future of our great region and perform an important civic duty. Find out more at victoriasaanich.ca. MASS LBP is running the Victoria-Saanich Citizens’ Assembly at arms-length from both municipalities to safeguard the independence of the process. All comments and questions related to the Victoria Saanich Citizens’ Assembly should be directed to info@victoriasaanich.ca or via phone at 1-833-319-1901.

Today is Red Dress Day and the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2 Spirit people. The REDress Project, which involves the hanging of red dresses in public spaces, began as an art installation by Métis artist Jamie Black first displayed at the University of Winnipeg in 2011 and has since been replicated in communities across Canada. The empty red dresses are meant to signify the loss of thousands of Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit people. https://lnkd.in/eyhrnrp
