Our vision is a world without dementia, and that world begins with a more dementia-friendly society.

About us

Families across British Columbia are affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. The Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s ultimate vision is a world without dementia; that vision begins with a world where people living with the disease are welcomed, acknowledged and included. Working in communities throughout the province, the Society supports, educates and advocates for people with dementia, as well as enabling research into the disease. As part of a national federation, the Society is a leading authority on the disease in Canada.

  • Are you interested in creating a #CorporateTeam for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, presented by Go Auto, on Sunday, May 26, but the date or locations don’t work for you? No problem! You can hold your own #CorporateTeam event during the month of May with our “Walk in a Box” initiative and fundraise creatively. For example, you can organize a competition between teams to see who can walk the most steps or host a company lunch for donations. Getting involved is easy: you simply register your event at a time and place that works for you, and then we send you a package to help you make your event a success. Holding a “Walk in a Box” is an opportunity for your organization to support British Columbians affected by dementia and ensure they can connect to Alzheimer Society of B.C. programs and services, so that they do not have to face the dementia journey alone. • “She’s realizing she’s losing her memory and she still shows up positive and lovely, and thankful for the people who help her. I’m just so proud of her strength and her resilience.” Valorie Mann’s children had an idyllic upbringing with the love and care of their mother, who they now care for as a team, following Valorie’s diagnosis of dementia and loss of her husband. Valorie and the family are being honoured at this year’s Kelowna IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, presented by Go Auto, on May 26. Read their story or register for a Walk near you at alzbc.org/WFA2024-Valorie.

  • Libraries, and their staff, play an important role in the lives of people affected by dementia. Over 60 per cent of people living with dementia continue to reside in their home and community. As their dementia progresses, their abilities will change and they may encounter situations that make it more difficult to access library services. Our recently released “Making your workplace dementia friendly” guide focuses on educating library service providers, helping them connect with and support people affected by dementia. Do you think your local library could benefit from this guide? Tag them in the comments so we can connect!
